Maybe Motherhood

A mental health companion for every messy, hopeful, uncertain chapter of trying to conceive, pregnancy, and postpartum.

I’m Katie Brett.

I’m an IVF nurse turned Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, specializing in Maternal Mental Health.

If you’re here, you’re probably carrying a story that didn’t unfold the way you hoped it would. I’ve been close to those stories for most of my career — and they have shaped me more than I ever expected.

I spent almost a decade as an IVF nurse walking alongside women in some of the most emotionally complex seasons of their lives. I witnessed the hope, the grief, the resilience, the identity shifts, and the quiet fears that rarely get acknowledged. Being invited into that level of vulnerability changed the way I understood women’s mental health forever.

Even outside the fertility clinic, pregnancy and motherhood brought their own internal shifts for me — moments that challenged my sense of self, stretched my emotional capacity, and transformed the way I approached both my personal life and my work.

Those experiences — both professional and deeply human — led me to pursue certification as a PMH-C psychiatric nurse practitioner, specializing in maternal mental health.

Today, I support women through the emotional realities that often get overlooked:

  • the grief of another negative cycle

  • the fear that shadows pregnancy after loss

  • the anxiety that settles into the postpartum months

  • the identity shifts that make you feel unfamiliar to yourself

  • the pressure to be grateful while quietly struggling

Maybe Motherhood is the space I longed to see in the online world.

A space where the truth is safe to say out loud.
A space where women don’t have to minimize their pain to be seen.
A space where identity shifts aren’t something to hide but something to understand and honor.

Whether you're trying to conceive, navigating IVF, pregnant with cautious hope, grieving a loss, or finding yourself again postpartum — I’m so glad you’re here.

There is room for your whole story.
